FRAMED SWALLOWTAIL!

I can show you this card now.  I made this for my lovely blog friend Patti all the way in the U.S.  It is her birthday TODAY and I wanted to send her some special birthday wishes.  This card was inspired by one on Pinterest.  That card had the beautiful butterfly watercoloured.  I have to say I had 4 attempts at watercolouring this but it just wasn’t working.  I messed it up every single time.  So I stamped the butterfly on Pink Pirouette in black Stazon and left it be.  Really there is so much detail in this gorgeous stamp you really don’t need to do too much.  So here is my card.

The original card had the frame cut using the On Film Framelits.  I don’t have those.  I used one of my Square Framelits and cut out the centre from a piece of Whisper White. I embossed the greeting from ‘Simply Sketched’ with Gold embossing Powder.  I added some strips of Gold Washi Tape to finish it off. Now I did mean to set it at an angle but it just looks like I stuck it down crooked.  The white frame was a little larger and it didn’t sit as well as I would have liked.  Once it is down it is not going to be moving!! The card base is Cherry Cobbler.

So make sure you go and say “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” to Patti on her blog here and check out her lovely creations while you are there.

Thanks for visiting.

VELLUM SWALLOWTAIL!

I held a class a couple of weeks ago using vellum.  I think everyone loved the projects.  I will show you them eventually but I first wanted to show you this card.  This was a card I made as a sample of one of the ways of using vellum.  I used the Swallowtail stamp from the Seasonal Catalogue.  I love this big butterfly.  I am so glad it has made the new annual Catalogue.  I plan on doing a lot more with this one.

I love the 3D effect with this.  It was purely unintentional but I like it!

I have used the Stained glass technique.  I stamped the Swallowtail stamp with Stazon on Vellum then coloured the back of the image with Pumpin Pie Marker almost to the edge of the image.  (Be sure to colour the back to give it a softer effect).  I used the Aquapainter to lightly blend the colour out at the edge and that lightened the colour.  I coloured the antenna with Black Marker also. I cut the butterfly out when it dried (that didn’t take long) and it curled up a little.  I was a little disappointed at first but then thought it added dimension to the image. I cut down the right side of the butterfly to fit the Whisper White mat (which I had already adhered to the Black mat and to the Pumpkin Pie Base card).  I adhered the butterfly on the right side and under the antenna and added a couple of glue dots under parts of the left hand edge just to adhere it down in places.  I added some Linen Thread and the greeting is from Petite Pairs.

I hope you like the effect.  I was pleased with how it turned out.

Some more vellum projects soon so stay tuned.

Hope your staying warm and dry for those on the East Coast of Australia.  It is wet AND cold!!!

SPONGED SWALLOWTAIL!

I love the ‘Swallowtail’ stamp in the current Seasonal Catalogue.  It is a large stamp but the detail in the image is beautiful and although it is big it can create some really “arty” cards.  I have been playing around with it a little recently.  Here is one card which has been really popular with my customers.  This card was inspired by a card I saw on Splitcoaststampers.

For this card I sponged the stamp firstly with Island Indigo inkpad in the centre of the butterfly.  To do this I just picked up some ink on my dauber and dabbed directly on the stamp. Then I daubered on Lucky Limeade ink towards the outside of the wings and then right on the edges of the wings I daubered on Pool Party.  I love the gradation of colours.  I am so going to miss these colours in a couple of months.  I adhered the white card to the Lucky Limeade base card which was folded at the top.  I wrapped around some Island Indigo Bakers Twine and added a button.  The sentiment is from ‘Teeny Tiny Sentiments’ and was stamped in Island Indigo.  I think it probably should have been stamped a little lower but never mind now.

I hope to show you some more  cards using this stamp over the coming weeks.

Have a great week.  I look forward to you stopping by again soon.  Why not say ‘Hi’ and leave me a comment.  It is always nice to hear from you.
