“Summer By The Sea”

It is not just the summer season that has finished here, although we are having some beautiful autumn weather,  the stamp set “summer by the sea” will be retiring at the end of the month.  This is a set I should have used more.  It has such fine line images which is beautiful to watercolour or to stamp just by itself.  I wanted to try watercolouring with the set before it leaves us.  I haven’t done a lot of watercolouring so I was experimenting.  After several attempts I think watercolouring with the inkpads and aquapainters worked better.  Just open the inkpad slightly and squeeze a couple of times.  When you open the inkpad there will some pools of ink.  Pick up some ink with the aquapainter and paint on your image.  I have stamped the image onto watercolour paper with stazon.  This prevents the ink bleeding when it is watercoloured.  The more ink you apply the darker the colour.  I was pleased with the end result.  I have stamped ‘wish big’ from “short and sweet”.  I thought this image would be great for a young boy so I pulled out some bold bright scraps.  These are colours I don’t use very often, but it is nice and summery.

JUST CHILAXING!!!

Just What?

I discovered a new word today.  We didn’t have cricket today YAY!! so our family headed down the south coast (NSW) for a drive.  As we were driving my DH mentioned the word Chilaxing.  What was he talking about?  Being a High School teacher he comes out with some interesting words occasionally.  Hadn’t I heard that before?

Chill out + Relaxing = Chilaxing.  You know – Take it easy.

I asked my DS (12) if he had heard it.  “Yeah, of course”.  So have I had my head buried in the sand for too long? Anyway, we had lunch by the river at Batemans Bay and just did a bit of “chilaxing”.  Then headed back home via Ulladulla Amusement Centre.  It was a lovely day – and educational!!  No stamping though.  I’ll have to see to that tomorrow maybe – unless I’m chilaxing again!

PIZZA WITH LOVE!!!

Yesterday I had a project class where everyone got to make a Mini Pizza Box and Love notes.  (Hence the heading!).  I think everyone had a great time!  I always love seeing how they all turn out.
Here is what they are like.

pict0972

They are very cute little boxes.  I found this on Splitcoast and there are various ones on other blogs.  The only thing missing is the pizza!

I have used ‘Embrace Life’ set and stamped the blossom on Very Vanilla cardstock.  To create the scallop cut out, the card must be 7.5cm (3″) square.  Place the card in the scallop edge punch and line it up even between the markings on the top.  After punching, turn the card and line up the next side.  Because of the size it won’t completely punch it out, creating a little tab.  Repeat on the other sides.  If that doesn’t make sense, email me.  You can thread ribbon through the slots too and wrap it around the card.  That looks really effective.  I have mounted the scallop square with dimensionals on a square of Ginger Blossoms DSP and then on Regal Rose.  You can’t see inside the box but I have lined the bottom of the box with a square of the ruby red dotted paper in the same DSP pack.

The little Love Notes measure 14.8×7.5 (just so you can fit them nicely on an A4 cardstock).  Score and fold them in half.  I stamped the blossoms from ‘Embrace Life’  on vanilla cardstock again.  The sentiment is from ‘Short and sweet’.  These would make cute little gifts and they are so quick to make.   Try one for yourself.  If you would like me to show you how, get some friends together and I can come to you.

A Late Challenge!!

A few weeks ago Makeesha set a colour challenge.  The colours were Rose Red, Regal Rose and Sage Shadow.  You can check it out here. I wanted to use Garden Whimsy and use embossing some way.  Anyway, here’s the result.  I rock and rolled the butterfly in regal rose and then rose red.  For the flower I inked the stem in sage shadow and the flower top in regal rose.  I inked the edge of the flower with the rose red marker.  This was stamped on whisper white  and matted onto sage shadow card.  The patterned paper is from the Crew Kids Girl Scrapping Kit.  I scalloped the sage card strip.   I paper pierced the corners of the rose red card base.   To create the glittery finish, I swiped the stamped cardstock with the versamark.  You need to make sure there is good coverage.  I sprinked over the Heat and Stick powder and heated it with the Heat Tool.  Then I sprinked over the Dazzling Diamonds and heated it again.  I was quite pleased with the bling finish.

Better late than never!!!

I made this card for Keesh’s challenge this week.  But, I was a little late in finishing it.  Considering we had 2 weeks to do this challenge it’s a bit sad really!! But, I thought I would show you anyway.  Challenges are good to take part in, especially when you are suffering ‘stamper’s block’.  Keesh sets some great challenges each week.  She is one very talented artist and you should go and check her blog out.   This week was a sketch challenge which you can see here.
This is the card I finally completed.  It was a bit different to what I first planned, but I was pleased with it in the end.

pict0971

The base is Old Olive sponged on the edges.  I have added a strip of the Bali Breeze DSP with a strip of Old Olive.  I rounded of the corner of the  Rose Red strip across the bottom.  The flower centre was made with circles punched out with the 1 3.8″ circle punch from the Bali Breeze DSP to create a Dahlia Fold flower.  A tutorial for creating this flower can be found here.  This was mounted on WW card with the edges sponged in Rose Red.  The text is from Sincere Salutations stamped in Rose Red.

I did create a card for an earlier challenge of Keesh’s and I will show you that next time.  That was a bit late being finished too.  I will try to get these done on time in future!!!

Stampin' Up!

Retirement…….and an Appeal!!

The retiring list is out and it is a HUGE one. There are lots of surprises. Stampin’ Up! are retiring a lot of products to bring the catalogue closer in line with the US market. These products will only be available until the 31st March, or while stocks last. Many are selling out very quickly. Some of the products are 25% off. You can view the retired list at http://www.stampinup.com. You need to to be quick to order.

Also, don’t forget the Stampin’ Up! Bushfire Appeal. 50% of the retail value of 10 selected stamp sets are being donated to the Victorian Red Cross Bushfire Appeal. There is so much loss and devastation in this area. This is one way you can support these people through the purchase of these stamps sets. To date, after only 2 weeks of the appeal SU has donated over $30,000 to the appeal. You have until the 31st March to help. Many of these sets are retiring so they won’t be around any more. Many demonstrators are donating some of their commission as well. I will be donating my 20% commission from the sale of these sets. You can see what sets are included on the website. http://www.stampinup.com

Contact me today to order any of the products. I can deliver to anywhere in Australia. Shipping and handling is 5% or $5.95 whichever is greater.

Another special occasion!

pict09502My sister and BIL have just celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary. That is certainly a great achievement. Not many marriages last that long these days. We have just been out for dinner to celebrate and catch up with all the family. I made a special card for them. They are not fussy, frilly type people so I kept it simple.
I used my fabsolute favourite SU set baroque Motifs. I am so glad it is not retiring. I have used this set for so many different occasions – birthdays, christmas, weddings, on 3D projects and scrapping. If you want a versatile set that you can use for so many purposes you can’t go past Baroque Motifs.
Anyway, back to the card. On Whisper White card I have stamped the swirls in versamark and Going Grey inkpad. I have then silver embossed them. This really gives a distinct image. I have stamped and embossed the flower image and the word Cherish. I have added a strip of Going Grey cardstock. (This is one way around adding a strip of colour if you haven’t got ribbon to match!). I have adhered this to a mat of Going Grey cardstock and then on to WW base. I have adhered the embossed flower image with dimensionals to lift it. The metallic dragonfly is not SU but I thought it added a nice touch. This is a very simple card, but I was pleased how it turned out.

Don’t forget the retiring list is out on the 1st March. I will post these shortly so you can see what sets are leaving us. So I hope you check back soon.
