MAKEESHA’S INSPIRATION CHALLENGE #10

I’ve been in a rush today to get Keesh’s challenge done.  Keesh always comes up with some beauties!!!!  Here is the photo we had as inspiration.

I have stared at this photo several times over the last week and have really struggled with it.  I did attempt something else but it just wasn’t working.  So I came up with this.  Now I was pleased how this one turned out considering my frustration, desperation, anquish!! But when I look at all the other cards that some very clever people have done mine is kind of boring.  Oh Well!! It’s done now!  I have a lot to learn!

Anyway, here is my card.

PICT1378

I have stamped the butterfly in Basic Black onto So Saffron DSP to create a shadow.  Then stamped the butterfly on whisper white with Tempting Turquoise and then cut it out.  I stamped the leaf stems in So saffron on whisper white and cut them out too.  I actually stamped these for my other card attempt (but we won’t talk about that one!).  I scalloped the edge of black card and mounted the DSP onto that and mounted it onto Tempting Turqoise cardstock.  I adhered the butterfly just on the middle so the wings would raise up, and also adhered the leaf stems.  I added a strip of black and created a bow with black cardstock.  The greeting is stamped in Basic Black.  It is a very simple card!!!!

I’m loving this new set “A Great Friend” that is coming out in the new Spring Mini starting on August 1.  I think it is a must-have!!

Go check out the other cards in Keesh’s challenge here.  There is some awesome creations!!!

A COLOUR CHALLENGE THIS TIME!!

I have just completed another challenge for the ESAD forum I am in.  This is a group for Australian SU Demonstrators.  This weekend has been a huge one with lots of stamping and creating for many different challenges.  Last post I showed a card for a sketch challenge.  This time I have created a card for the Colour Challenge.  When I first saw the colours I was surprised.  They were very dull colours (can I say that???).  But that’s what a challenge is for – to stretch our creativity.

Here are the colours:        So Saffron, Basic Gray, Whisper White.

What do you do with those colours together?  I had several thoughts in my head of what to create, but then this is the card I turned out…. and I was pleased with it.

Colour Challange Ning

Stamps:  Embrace life

Card: So Saffron, Whisper White, Urban Garden DSP, Windsor Knot DSP.

Ink: Basic Black (ssshhh!).

Other: Ribbon Originals, Dimensionals.

Ok, so I didn’t have Basic Gray ink.  That was my other issue.  So I used Basic Black and stamped it off and then stamped it on the card.  That’s close to Basic Gray isn’t it????  I stamped off the flower in the set and stamped it on the Windsor Knot So Saffron DSP and then cut it out.  I then mounted it with Dimensionals on the Whisper White card that I had stamped with the stems.

So what do you think of this colour combination?  Why don’t you give it a go.  Email me your creation or let me know your link so I can share it with everyone.

I have been creating other things too so I will show you them soon.

FAMILY STAMPING!!!

On Tuesday I had a family holiday stamping time with my MIL, SIL and her friend, and niece Megan (Hi Megan!!!). I wanted to show you what we did. I used the SU ‘Lovely as a Tree’. I don’t have this set but I borrowed it and had a lot of fun!!

For the first card I wanted a masculine type card. On the Choc Chip base card I stamped the leaf randomly over the card with Choc Chip inkpad. I stamped the large pine tree in Choc Chip onto Very Vanilla and then without reinking stamped it again to the right of it. Then I inked it up again and stamped it off on scrap paper and then stamped it to the right of the first one. I tore the bottom edge and then distressed and inked the edges in Choc Chip. I adhered this to Certain Celery cardstock. On the Certain Celery mat I had distressed the edges and inked them with Choc Chip also. I stamped on Happy Birthday from ‘A Little Birthday Cheer’ Set. I adhered both of these to the Choc Chip base. I stamped off 2 leaves onto scrap Vanilla card and then cut them out and mounted them with dimensionals. It is a very simple card.

The second card was based on the very talented Michelle Zindorf. Check out her blog she does some awesome work. I stamped the trees in Basic Black. I punched a circle in a post-it note with the 1 3/8″ circle and stuck it on to create a mask. I then sponged around the trees with Baja Breeze, then Night of Navy and Black right on the edge. The grass was sponged with Old Olive and then the gone over with the Old Olive Marker at the grass line. The sentiment is from ‘Short and Sweet’ stamped in black. It was then mounted on Black and then Old Olive.

BAROQUE TIME!!!

Sorry I have been MIA in the last week. It has been such a busy week, but I have something to show you!!!!
I had a workshop on Saturday. My lovely hostess wanted me to use the Baroque set. Since she had seen a number of different ways I needed to come up with something else that she hadn’t seen yet. I agonised over the card for the make N take (as I do all of them might I add!!). This is what I showed.

IMG_0007

It was similar card to one I had shown in an earlier post with the Baroque Gift box and cards.  I turned this one the other way and changed the colours.  It was a simple card really but everyone liked it.  The flower was Rock and Rolled in Certain Celery and then Choc Chip on scrap cardstock.  It was cut out and then raised on dimensionals.

Stamps: Baroque Motifs, Short and Sweet.

Card: Choc Chip, Certain Celery, Very Vanilla.

Ink: Choc Chip, Certain Celery.

Other: Dimensionals, Scallop Border Punch.

On your blog hopping you might have read about Stepping Up your cards.  I took this card and stepped it up.  I added some Dazzling Diamonds in the centre of the Rock and Rolled flower (although you probably can’t see that!!).  I added some Choc Chip Grosgrain ribbon and stamped the greeting on scrap card. Then I punched it out with the word window punch.

I then made the card again in a different colour combo.  This time in Old Olive and Pumpkin Pie.  So what do you think?  Which colour do you like best?

In my creating last week I made another card using the Baroque Motifs set.

IMG_0009

This is a small 10cmx10cm card.  I stamped the swirls, the small flower and the word ‘cherish’ in versamark  and then did some Poppin’ Pastels with the sponge daubers and pastels.  I love this technique.  It has to be one of my favourites I think.  It reminds me of the magic picture books you had and you rubbed over them and the picture appears.  It is such a WOW technique!

On scrap card I stamped the small flower in versamark again and added some pastels.  I cut it out and mounted it with dimensionals.  The centre is a rhinestone.  I discovered you could pull apart the brad and take out the rhinestone when I was visiting Andrea’s blog the other day.

So there you have it.  Am I forgiven now for not posting all week!!! I hope to have some more creations to show you soon.  Why not try a card and then step it up, or try the poppin’ pastels.  Email me your creations and I can post some here.

Thanks for looking!! Stop by again soon.

BRAYERED UPSY DAISY

I had a go at brayering the other day when we had a team stamping day.  I used this lovely set ‘Upsy Daisy’.  I think I have a bit to learn about brayering!  I copied the brayering that Ness had done.

Firstly, punch a circle using the 1 3/8″  circle punch on scrap paper and apply some 2-way glue to the back.  When the glue dries it can be removed when you are finished.  Ink up the brayer on the ink pad until it is covered and then quickly brayer back and forth moving slowly up the cardstock.  For this card I used Regal Rose.  You need to re-ink a number of times and continue brayering.  I have to say it is hard work!!  When you are happy with the depth of colour you can remove the circle and let it dry.  Then stamp over the top with the flower stems from Upsy Daisy.  Use a slightly darker shade.  For this I used Rose Red.  Then add your greeting.

Once it had dried completely I created this card.  This was for my MIL’s birthday last Friday.  She loves red that is why I chose these colours.  I picked out the Olive from other papers in the Raspberry Tart DSP Pack.  (It is actually Kiwi Kiss, but it is close!!)

PICT1322

Stamps: Upsy Daisy, Short and Sweet.

Card:  Rose Red, Old Olive, Whisper White,  Raspberry Tart DSP.

Ink:  Regal Rose, Rose Red, Old Olive.

Other: Brayer, Dimensionals, 1 3/8″ circle punch, 2-way glue, dazzling diamonds.

The bow is made from Old Olive Cardstock.  Cut a very thin strip of cardstock, then holding both ends gently run the strip up and down on the edge of the table or chair back.  This breaks the fibres down and it becomes more flexible so that you can tie it into a bow.

On the tips of the flowers in the circle I applied some 2-way glue and Dazzling Diamonds, just to add the bling!  Unfortunately you can’t see it very well.  I brayered another couple of the Upsy Daisy flowers while I was at it, so I will have a go at creating some more cards soon.  It’s a busy week ahead with workshops and planning a Kids Stamp for the holidays, so I better get moving.

Have a good Day 🙂

A BABY SHOWER!!!

Two posts in one day. Whoo Hooo!! This weekend I am going to a baby shower. It is very exciting. I have been wanting to make this card for a while and now I have the perfect excuse. This is a fun card to make. It is a baby jumpsuit (or onesie as they are called in the US). You can find all the instructions how to make one here on Lauren’s blog. I was surprised how small it was though, so I doubled the length and then folded it over.

Stamps: Best yet, Short and Sweet.

Card: Whisper White, Certain Celery, Rose Red.

Ink: Certain Celery, Rose Red.

Other: 1 3/8″ Circle Punch, Scallop circle punch, Dimensionals.  Pink Eyelets (not SU).

It is sooo cute!  I thought if you don’t punch the circles for the leg holes you could turn it into a dress.  That would be good to try sometime.

Why don’t you try one.  Have a good weekend!

A CASE…….

The other day we had a team stamping day at Ness’.  I spotted a card she had received from Claire.  It was so beautiful.  Since I was playing with ‘Friends 24-7’ I thought I might just case it.  I don’t think Claire has this on her blog, but I love her style.  Go and check Claire’s blog out.

I have to say I don’t think my card is as beautiful.  I didn’t have any pink brads so I paper pierced the corners.  Claire used Choc Chip for the word friend and mounted this on choc chip card.  It did  make it pop more.  I was happy with the final result anyway.  I really liked the layout, so I might just have to use this again sometime.

Stamps: Friends 24-7

Card: Old Olive, Regal Rose, Whisper White.

Ink: Old Olive, Regal Rose and Old Olive and Regal Rose markers.

Other: sponge, Paper Piercer and mat, Dimensionals, Old Olive wide grosgrain ribbon.

Thanks for Looking!

IN SYMPATHY…

Just a quick post as I am heading off to a funeral for my Uncle who recently passed away. It will be good to see family that I haven’t seen in over 10 years. It is just sad that it takes a funeral to do that.

I made a very quick card, nothing fancy.  This stamp is from the SU ‘Thoughts and Prayers’ set.  It has some beautiful word stamps that is just ideal for sympathy cards.  Sympathy cards can be hard to make sometimes!

Yvonnes Card 2_0002

Stamps: Thoughts and Prayers.

Card: Night of Navy, Creamy Caramel, Whisper White.  Urban Garden DSP.

Ink: Night of Navy, Creamy Caramel.

Other: Dimensionals, Wide oval and Large oval punch, sponge, paper piercer, stapler, Ribbon (non SU).

Unfortunately the paper piercing didn’t come out too well in the scan.  Sorry about that!  I thought I was a bit clever though. Since I didn’t have a creamy caramel inkpad to sponge around the edge of the oval  I drew on some acetate with my marker and then picked up the ink with my sponge that way.  It worked just as well!!!!

Thanks for Looking and have a good day!!

A BIRTHDAY BOX!!

I saw this cute little box at Ness’ recently.  It is different to the Triangle boxes I usually make so I wanted to check out how to make one.  After much searching I came across the instructions for something similar here at Splitcoast.  I copied the base instructions to make the lid too but I made the sides of the top a bit longer so I could scallop the edge.  I used the beautiful Rasperry Tart paper to go with the Regal Rose cardstock.  The flower on the top I came across also at Splitcoast here and wanted to make one straight away.  I thought it would go well on top of this little box.  Here is how you make them.  They are crinkle paper flowers.  Aren’t they cute!  The button I used is not an SU one,  just one I had lying around and it matched perfectly.

PICT1309

Cardstock: Regal Rose, Real Red, Whisper White, Raspberry Tart DSP.

Ink: Regal Rose.  Real Red and Old Olive markers.

Stamps: Best Yet, Short and Sweet.

Other: Wide and Large Oval Punch, Circle Tab punch, Scallop Border Punch, Mounting Tape,  Sponge, Red Grosgrain ribbon, Red button and pink thread (not SU).

I filled this box with chocolates and rhinestone brads for a lovely friend’s birthday that was yesterday.  I’m sure she won’t be looking today to spoil the surprise, so it is safe to put this here today.  I’m going to have to make another one to keep myself though.  I don’t think mine will come with chocolates though!

This is the card I made to match.  This is using the beautiful set ‘Thoughts and Prayers’.  It is a very simple card.  I inked up the branch with markers, sponged around the edge of Regal Rose cardstock for the base and I added a red rhinestone brad and red grosgrain ribbon to finish it off.
