DRAGONFLY DREAMING FOR A COLOUR CHALLENGE!

I didn’t get to the Stampin’ Up! Onstage event this weekend for a number of reasons which was sad BUT I did get to hang out with my beautiful girl for Brunch and a movie and we had a lovely family wedding yesterday AND as a bonus I got to stamp today.  So while I missed all my stamping buddies and all the sneak peek into the new catalogue I had a special weekend. 🙂

This Colour INKspirations Colour challenge has been running for the last 3 weeks but I haven’t had a chance to look at it and to be honest I was a bit daunted as to how to put all those colours together!

This week’s colours for Challenge #06 were Night of Navy, Pool Party, Calypso Coral and Gold.  Yep! I would not normally put those colours together.

Here is what came together today.

It’s hard to tell by the photo but the front of the Night of Navy base card is actually cut and the sponged strip is set behind the cut section rather than layering it on top. To do that, I cut down on the left side of the Night of Navy card to leave a small border. I then adhered the sponged panel behind that on the left. Then with the portion of card I had cut off I cut it down to about 3cm (just over an inch). I adhered that over the sponged piece on the right. I hope that makes sense?? 🙂

To Create the Sponged Panel:

On a piece of Whisper White firstly wipe over the piece with the Embossing Buddy.  Stamp your dragonfly from Dragonfly Dreams with Versamark and then add Clear Embossing Powder and heat with your Heat Tool.  Using sponges and starting at the bottom sponge over Night of Navy ink, then Pool Party in the middle and Calypso Coral at the top.  Ink up the “spots” from Timeless Textures with Versamark and then add Gold Embossing Powder and Heat.

After adhering the piece to your card as described above stamp the “dots” from Dragonfly Dreams in Night of Navy ink down the right hand side of the card base.  On a strip of Whisper White stamp the sentiment from Dragonfly Dreams in Versamark and then Gold Embossing Powder.  Add some loops of Gold Thread behind the sentiment and add that to your card with Dimensionals.  Cut some small dragonflies from Gold Foil and add 3 to your card.

I actually didn’t think I would get a card done for this challenge so that was a nice accomplishment for the day.  Hope you like it.

Have a great week,

Jenny

FALLING PETALS SPOTLIGHTING!

This weekend I have had a play at this week’s Colour Inkspirations Challenge #05.  The colours we had were Blushing Bride, Soft Sky and Sahara Sand.

They are such pretty soft colours and lend themselves to cute baby cards or soft floral or even butterflies??

Recently I shared a card with you of a different way to use the Falling Petal Embossing Folder.  You can see that post HERE if you missed it.  I have wanted to play with this idea since then and thought I would try it out with this challenge.  This is the card I ended up with.

The lighting is not very good today.  It is wet and overcast so not the best.  Actually it has been torrential rain for the past week!

To the card:  The base card is Blushing Bride and the mat is Sahara Sand.  I embossed a Whisper White card mat with the Falling Petals Embossing Folder.  Tied around some White Baker’s Twine before adhering it to the Sahara Sand card mat and card base. I cut a piece of Thick Whisper White with one of the larger Layering Circles Framelits Dies and embossed it with the Falling Petals Embossing Folder.

On this circle piece I created some little flowers with the embossed hearts/petals.  I used the Sahara Sand Marker to first draw some lines from each petal to create the flower stems.  Then coloured each flower with the Blushing Bride inkpad and Blender Pen. Then with the Aquapainter I added a light wash with the Soft Sky inkpad around the flowers. Just a note: After giving it a light wash with the Soft Sky it did wash out the Sahara Sand stems so I went over that lightly again.  I went over the petals with the clear Wink of Stella pen too to add some sparkle but it is hard to tell in the photo.

This coloured piece was then adhered on to a Blushing Bride circle a bit larger. I then adhered it to the white card mat lining it up roughly in the same place.  This created a type of spotlighting of the petals at the top of the card.

The sentiment is from Birthday Blossoms and cut with the Project Life Framelits.  I added some small adhesive pearls to the sentiment piece.  A small dragonfly was cut from the Blushing Bride Glimmer Paper to add some extra sparkle.

What do you think of this card?? I felt it was missing something?? Not sure.

Anyway, I think these challenges are good.  It makes you think a lot about your creating. It’s nice to steal away a little “me” time stamping too.

I hope you have a lot of creating opportunities this coming week.

DUSTING OFF THE DAHLIA FOR COLOUR INKSPIRATIONS CHALLENGE #04!

I had a little play yesterday.  I was supposed to do so many other things but really …….  🙂  I wanted to have a try at the new Colour challenge at Colour INKspirations.  I wasn’t sure if I would get a chance later this week and I missed last week.  This is the colours for this week.

colour-inkspiration04

I had been contemplating these colours all weekend and really wasn’t sure what to do with them.  I haven’t used Elegant Eggplant in YEARS!!  It was one of my “go-to” colours a long time ago. So I dusted that off and then looked at my stamp shelf to see what I could use.  The Definitely Dahlia stamp was one I hadn’t used in ages either.   After looking through Pinterest for a few minutes.  (Really only a few minutes.  You have to control yourself there!).  I was inspired to create a multi coloured flower.  So here is my resulting card.  I am still not sure of it but here it is!

definitely-dahlia-for-colour-inkspirations-04

TO RECREATE THIS.

The Dahlia – For the ‘Definitely Dahlia’ stamp I first inked it with the Crushed Curry, then sponged some Delightful Dijon in the centre.  The idea then was to sponge the Elegant Eggplant on the edges.  When I first did this and stamped the Dahlia the purple went a brown colour.  That was not what I wanted!  So after cleaning the stamp I repeated with the Crushed Curry and Delightful Dijon, then with a tissue I wiped off some of the Crushed Curry on the edges.  Then with a sponge I went over the edges with the Elegant Eggplant.

After stamping it, some of the colour was a bit faint to what I would have liked (it’s an old inkpad) so I went over the image with the Elegant Eggplant Marker to touch it up.  I then went over it with the Aquapainter just to smooth it over.

The Dragonfly – The patterned Dragonfly from ‘Dragonfly Dreams’ set was stamped with Black Stazon onto clear Acetate and then cut using the  Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits.  I adhered that on to the card with Glue Dots.

To Finish –  Stamp over some “dots” from ‘Gorgeous Grunge’ with the Crushed Curry.  I tied around some Crushed Curry Baker’s Twine a few times around the card.  The sentiment is from the ‘Dragonfly Dreams’ set.  The card is layered on to the Elegant Eggplant card mat and then on to a Thick Whisper White card base.  Always bling to finish with the Rhinestones right. 🙂

So what are your thoughts?? Certainly not as good as some of the stunning cards entered for this challenge BUT you just have to have a go.  Check out the amazing cards and you can join in yourself if you like.  Head over HERE to join on Facebook.

A DOUBLE WHAMMY FOR A COLOUR CHALLENGE!

I had a little play today.  I am trying to make a little more time for my own creating.  So I played along with the Colour INKspirations challenge.  This is a Facebook group that has recently started. Here is the colour palette.

colour-inkspirations

Don’t these look yummy – and so cool after the hot week we have had here this week.  So I made not one but 2 cards! I was on a roll.

Here is my first card.

day-at-the-beach-_-colour-challenge

This one uses the set ‘Day at the Beach’.  I have had this set for a while now but this was the first time I have inked it up.  I have used the Shimmery White card to stamp the iceblocks on. (I think in some countries you call these icelollies??) I tested other paper to stamp them on but I found the Shimmery White worked best.  The Thick Whisper White just warped too much even though you can watercolor on it at times.

TO COLOUR THEM:

I inked one iceblock at a time then used the aquapainter to colour it straight away pulling some of the colour in from the image lines. I also added some more colour by picking it up off the inkpads with the aquapainter.  I think a big part of watercolouring is patience.  Let the images dry and THEN go back over it adding more colour with the inkpads and aquapainter and building up the depth of colour if you want to.

TO ASSEMBLE THE CARD:

The stamped piece is layered on to Sweet Sugarplum card and then to a Mint Macaron card base. The “spots” are from the ‘Timeless Textures’ set to match each iceblock.  It was hot here so they melted quickly. 😉  I added a nice sparkly HAPPY from Silver Glimmer Paper with the ‘Hello You’ Thinlits the birthday is from ‘Crazy About You’. It has been some time since I have pulled these out.  Of course, I added some Rhinestones for the bling factor. 🙂

floral-details-thinlits

My 2nd card is using the gorgeous ‘Detailed Floral Thinlits’.

TO MAKE THE CARD:

Cut 2 pieces of Whisper White to slightly smaller than your card base.  On one piece of card cut the 2 Detailed Floral thinlits dies. The smaller die at the top the larger die at the bottom.  On your second piece of Whisper White you will sponge your colours on. Take one colour at a time and sponge a colour in different places over the card. Then take your next colour and move on to each colour.  You can go back over the card at the end to fill in patches or add more intense colour in parts.

Here is the finished panel I had when I was finished. (Maybe I should do a video on this???).

2017-01-16-08-12-18

TO ASSEMBLE THE CARD:

Using your Fine Tip Glue carefully add the glue to the back of the cut panel and then adhere the 2 pieces together. TIP: I find when using this glue that it runs very quickly. You don’t need to squeeze the bottle.  When I have covered the piece in glue I turn it over onto scrap paper and press very lightly just to take off some of the excess glue so it doesn’t ooze out from under the piece when you are sticking it down.

Once done I adhered this to the Blushing Bride card base. Since I had the Hello You Thinlits out I cut a Happy from the Blushing Bride Glimmer Paper.  The “for you” is from the Crazy About You set again.  I stamped that on to Blushing Bride card and punched it out with the Classic Label Punch. The piece was sponged around with Blushing Bride ink to add some highlights.

Hope you like them.  Have a great day. 🙂

DRAGONFLY DREAMS FOR A SKETCH AND COLOUR CHALLENGE!

Two posts in one day! How about that.  I hadn’t intended to post again today but this afternoon I had a little play time and made a card for 2 challenges and need to post them before it is too late.  So here you go.

This card is for a Facebook colour challenge group I have just joined.  This is the Colour INKspirations.  The colour challenge this week is Bermuda Bay, Mint Macaron and Daffodil Delight.  For this card I also played along with the Freshly Made Sketches #269 Challenge. Check the sketch challenge at Freshly Made Sketches -> HERE. I have to say once you have colours to use and the sketch it doesn’t take that long to put a card together.

This was the final result.

dragonfly-dreams-colour-challenge

The card is fairly straight forward.  To incorporate the Daffodil Delight I stamped the “spots” down the left hand side.  I find Daffodil Delight a hard colour to work with but managed to use this here.  I have used the set Dragonfly Dreams and the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits.

To create the Dragonfly:  The dragonfly was made in 2 steps so I thought I would tell you about it.  Firstly, stamp the dragonfly wings stamp onto Mint Macaron card with Mint Macaron ink then cut it out with the Dragonfly outline Thinlits.  Then cut a detailed dragonfly out from Bermuda Bay card.  Adhere these both together by sticking just the body part together so you can raise the wings up.

To add a little sparkle I went over the Mint Macaron wings with the Wink of Stella pen and I added some Bermuda Bay sequins to finish the card off.

Here is a close up of the Dragonfly wings so you can see the sparkle.

BUTTERFLY FOR FRESHLY MADE SKETCHES #257

Today I indulged and made a card just because I wanted to.  Well it was my birthday so I thought I could …..

I saw the Freshly Made Sketches for this week so wanted to try something out for that. Firstly here is the sketch.

fms-final-257-001

Here is my card.

butterfly-for-fms

Let me tell you how I made it:

Butterfly – To create the butterfly I firstly washed over some Shimmery White card with the Aquapainter and water.  Then using the Aquapainter I picked up some ink from the ink pad and brushed over the card in patches.  The first colour was Watermelon Wonder. Here it is to show you.

butterfly-_-colouring

Wipe off your Aquapainter on scrap paper before picking up the next colour and brush over in patches again.  I have used Cucumber Crush.  The third colour was Delightful Dijon. You can fill in areas at the end with any of the colours or go over some.  See how it looks.  Well what you have at the end really is …… a mess!!! It is pretty ugly isn’t it? But don’t despair.  Something beautiful will emerge. 🙂

butterfly-_-colouring-2

From this I cut the large Butterfly Thinlits.

Just as an aside; When I cut the butterfly and rolled over the back of the die with the Die Brush, this is what was left when I lifted the die.  I thought it looked really pretty.  Just had to show you. 🙂

20161007_113755

This was the finished butterfly.  See persevere with the ugly mess and it is pretty.

butterfly-_-coloured

Now for the card: On a piece of the Moroccan DSP I stamped the fern leaf from the Butterfly Basics set and the “splodges” are from Timeless Textures. I sponged around the edges of the paper. This piece was adhered to some Copper Foil sheet and adhered to a Crumb Cake base. What you might not be able to see in the  photo is the sparkle from the Wink of Stella.  It does sparkle really!

The sentiment is from Badges and Banners.  I finished off the card with some pearls.

That was lengthy.  Sorry about that.  Thanks for visiting though. You can visit the Freshly Made Sketches blog HERE and play along.

See you again soon,

Jenny

A COLOUR CHALLENGE AND FMS SKETCH CHALLENGE!

I had some ‘ME’ time stamping today.  It’s not often I do that as I am always preparing for classes or making cards for others.  So I indulged!!! 🙂

I really like joining in on challenges.  It extends your creativity and makes you think a bit. I saw the Freshly Made Sketches the other day and thought I wanted to have a go at it. Then I saw the new Colour Challenge on Pootles.  So I knew that they were my starting point.

I will show you my card, then I will go through some of the thought processes behind it.

So for Sam’s Colour Challenge this week it was Sweet Sugarplum, Soft Sky and So Saffron. Lovely subtle colours but I would never have thought to put them together. Thanks Sam! That’s what a challenge is for right. 😉

Here is the Sketch for Freshly Made Sketches #246.

FMS Final 246-001

This was the card I created.

Sunburst challenge for FMS

Let me tell you how I got to this point.

I already had the colours to use (sometimes that is half the battle!) and I had a sketch. Sketches really give you a plan to work with.  From there I went through my stamps to see what might work with these colours.  They were nice pastel colours so I thought flowers or butterflies.  I pulled out some of those sets and then found my Badges and Banners set. I wondered if this might work??

I then pulled out the cardstock for these colours and pulled out the DSP, ribbon and other embellishments I had.  I loved the Sweet Sugarplum paper in the Playful Palette DSP. I inked up the birdcage image in the stamp set in So Saffron.  I wiped off the ink on the bird with the Blender Pen and then coloured it with the Soft Sky inkpad using the Blender Pen again.  It wasn’t as bright as I would have liked after I stamped it.  I did go over it with the Soft Sky marker to lift it up.  I punched it out with the Best Badge punch.

The sentiment was stamped in Memento on Soft sky and punched with the Duet Banner punch.  The big question was what to make the tag shape behind the images from the sketch?? I pulled out a few of my Framelits and sized them up but they just weren’t working.  Then I saw the Starburst Thinlits.  Why not think outside of the box – or the shape??  I cut the starburst shape from the So Saffron.  It was a little big for what was needed.  I used the Layering Square Framelits.  I used my largest straight square and lined it up over the Starburst to get the right position.  When I cut it I just rolled it through in the Big Shot to just before the end of the frame, then rolled it back so it wouldn’t cut the end. Then I turned the Framelit and card piece.  Lined the card with the Square Framelit again and rolled it through stopping before it came to the end again. Then I had a rectangular shape.

It was a very quick case of just sticking it together. I finished the card off with a bow from White Baker’s Twine and an Adhesive Rhinestone.  So these colours could work together. 🙂

If you want to have a go at these challenges.  You can see the Freshly Made Sketch #246 HERE and go to Sam’s blog at Pootles HERE for the Colour Challenge (check out her other amazing creations while you are there!).

FLAMINGO FOR FRESHLY MADE SKETCHES #226!

I saw this idea on Pinterest a few weeks ago to make a flamingo with the ‘Balloon Builders’ stamp set.  I had only just started using this set after receiving it at Stampin’ Up! Onstage last November.  I thought this flamingo was kinda cool though.  So I stamped it up but then I didn’t know how to put it on a card – until I saw the Freshly Made Sketches sketch this week. So I finally added it to a card – and it is done before the time of the sketch challenge to end!  Here is the sketch and then my card.

FMS Final 226-001

flamingo

The card base is Melon Mambo and the paper is from the ‘It’s My Party’ Paper Stack. I matted this piece on to some Silver Foil. (Just a tip: Cut a rectangle from the centre of your Silver Foil piece then you can use that piece for another project).  The sentiment is from ‘Remembering Your Birthday’ and I cut a little silver piece from the ‘Itty Bitty Banners’.  I added a Paper Lace Doily and some Melon Mambo dots from the ‘It’s My Party’ Enamel Dots.

I have used a number of the balloons from the ‘Balloon Builders’ set and drew the legs freehand.  This is a fun set and you can create so many cute things with it.  Here is the set if you haven’t noticed it in the catalogue.

balloon builder

This is on p. 14 of the catalogue.  It is a photopolymer stamp and is $28.  Great value for 19 stamps!

The original Flamingo card can be found HERE. Go and check the link out though because Ruth has lots of clever ideas with this set.

Thanks for stopping by.  Have yourself a great day where ever you are. 🙂

MINT HONEYCOMB HAPPINESS!

Our team has colour challenges each week and I don’t often have the time for them but 2 weeks ago I had just a little time so thought I would have a go.

I had received the Free ‘Honeycomb Happiness’ set for Sale-A-Bration just 2 days before.  I had been busy making some cards with it the day before.  Which I will show you soon. Since this set was out still I thought I would use this for the challenge.  I wasn’t sure of this set at first.  I didn’t know how I would use it.  I had seen some cute cards around with it though.

The Colour Challenge was Mint Macaron, Night of Navy and Daffodil Delight.  To be honest I thought these colours were hard to work with but I would give it a try.  After all that’s what a challenge is right!!

The stamps were sorted, the colour sorted, just the design to sort.  When I get stuck with a design and I am not CASING a direct card I usually go to a Sketch design.  I have a few on Pinterest.  The layout for this card was based on the Clean and Simple Sketch #139.

So I have talked enough about how I got here but you want to see the card.

mint hello

I used Shimmery White card to stamp the chick and the balloon on and coloured them with the aquapainter and ink pad.  OK I cheated,  I added some Calypso Coral for the beak and legs. 🙂 I cut them out and raised them up with Dimensionals. The paper is the Sale-A-Bration paper ‘Perfectly Artistic’ which is now not available.  It was when I made the card 🙂  You can’t quite see but I added some Wink of Stella Clear Brush to the balloon.

Thanks for visiting.  Why not go and challenge yourself to use these colours on a card.

See you next time,

Jenny

RAZZLEBERRY COLOUR CHALLENGE!

Our team (Inky Fingers) has challenges every couple of weeks.  Sometimes I join in.  I thought I would have a go at this week’s colour challenge.  The colours were Rich Razzleberry, Daffodil Delight, Basic Black and Whisper White.  I don’t use Daffodil Delight very much and I haven’t used Rich Razzleberry for a while since we have had Blackberry Bliss.  So it was good to drag out these colours.

I went through my stamp sets to see what would work well with these colours but I wanted to use something new.  I inked up this gorgeous Sale-A-Bration set ‘What I Love’.

Razz flowers

This stamp set is a 2 step set (or you could say 3 step) but it is very easy to use. I stamped the outline flower over the Whisper White card and then stamped some small Rich Razzleberry flowers in between these.  I stamped the large flower again on scrap white card in Razzleberry and then inked up the solid image in the set and stamped it off lightly on scrap paper then stamped it over the outline stamp. Yes there is Daffodil Delight there in the centre.  I brushed over it with the Clear Wink of Stella brush to make it sparkle. It’s a shame you can’t see that too well. I am loving this brush.  You can add sparkle without a glittery mess! The Designer Series Paper is from the ‘It’s My Party’ Designer Series Stack.  I added some Black Stitched Satin Ribbon. The greeting is from the stamp set and I cut it out with the label that is with the Mini Treat Bag Thinlets.

It’s just a simple card but I hope you like it. 🙂

This is the stamp set.  This is one of the Free choices with a $90 order.

What I Love

Have you caught up with what Sale-A-Bration is all about yet??  It’s a great time for you to get Freebies when you Shop, Host or Join.  If you want to know more then you can read about it on my Blog post HERE.  You won’t want to miss out on the Sale-A-Bration offerings.  They are only available for a limited time.  Why not invite me around to your place if you are local and I can share some fun projects with you and your friends.
