WEDNESDAY’S WOW! #41 – USING THE SHIMMER PAINT – PART 1!

Today for Wednesday’s WOW! #41 I have a super quick tip for you when you are using the Shimmer Paint.  At this stage I am not showing you particular techniques necessarily.  That will come at a later date.  I just wanted to show you a quick easy way of using it.  Maybe you know it already. 🙂

You will see.  Here is the video below. It is only a very quick one I took as I was making the card so apologies for the quality.

Did you find that helpful??

I will show you the finished card tomorrow so be sure to stop by.

WEDNESDAY’S WOW! #41 – BEAUTIFUL BLIZZARD!

Christmas for us here is warm – well often hot, so we don’t think of snow let alone blizzards.  So while the weather is a little cooler for us at the moment as Spring warms up I thought for Wednesday’s WOW! #41 we would look at the Beautiful Blizzard Bundle.  I think it is a lovely one.

You can find this on page 39 of the Holiday Catalogue.  It has some sweet images and I really love the Blizzard Thinlits Die.  This is a one piece die and is very versatile.  With the Die you can create a background by cutting the die on a single piece of card, Or use it as a mask to sponge over.  Why not use the individual snowflakes to add to a card?  Here are some samples for you.

For these ones the snowflakes are diecut and adhered to the card.  Check the gold ones out that have been daubered with Gold Shimmer.

Look closely at the Mint Macaron strip on the bag.  The Blizzard Thinlits die were dry embossed on to the card using the Embossing Mat.  This is a very cool effect.

Here are some more Beautiful Blizzard samples from Stampin’ Up! artists.  Very pretty ways of using the stamps and dies too.

This is the lovely Beautiful Blizzards Bundle.

If you want to see a video on working with this bundle check the Youtube video below.  It shows some great ways to use it including how they have made the cards shown above.

You can order this in my store now -> HERE.  Clear Mount is $80.  Wood Mount is $92.50. Please use the Host Code:  SGXSEFMS   Thank You and be sure not to mark your online order anonymous or I can’t send you your Thank You Gift. 🙂  You can order directly from me too if you prefer by emailing me or dropping me a comment and I will contact you with the details.

I don’t want to wish you a Blizzard for Christmas.  That would not be fun.  I do hope it is filled with the Beautiful Blizzard though. 🙂

WEDNESDAY’S WOW! #40 – DOUBLE EMBOSSING YOUR CARD!

Wednesday’s WOW! #40 today.  Who knew there were so many tips and tricks to share with you.

Today’s WOW! is something I came across in my blog travels recently.  I read it on Pinterest but didn’t save the idea.  Only stored it in my head as something to try so it is not my original idea but I think it is certainly worthwhile sharing with you.

It’s a cool technique that really adds to your embossing on your cards.  It is double embossing, using 2 Embossing Folders to create great texture on your card.

See it here.

For this technique it works with one Embossing Folder that is a little more finer detail.  The Subtle Embossing Folder or even the Softly Falling one works well.  The second Embossing Folder needs to have a little more open design.  The Tufted Embossing Folder works great.

The first example above I used the Subtle Embossing Folder and the Petal Burst Embossing Folder.

The second example I used the Subtle Embossing Folder and the Tufted Embossing Folder.

This one below I tried 2 different folders.

Softly Falling Embossing Folder with the Petal Bust Folder on the left and the Swirls and Curls Embossing Folder.

THE HOW-TO

For this to work well firstly emboss the card with the finer detail one, then emboss the card with your second more open design folder.  If you emboss it the other way around you will find that the embossing with the more open design is squashed when you emboss it with the finer one.

Here are the finished cards with the 2 samples.

Hope you find this helpful and try it on your projects.

WEDNESDAY’S WOW! #39 – TAKE YOUR PICK TOOL!

It’s Wednesday! And we have another edition of Wednesday’s WOW! #39 for you today I thought it would be good to check out this new little gadget in the catalogue – The Take your Pick Tool.  I keep calling it the Pick It tool because I can never remember the name. LOL!

This neat little Multi-purpose pick-up tool makes picking up sequins and other smaller embellishments so much easier.  It contains putty in the end and this is used to pick up the item and place it on your project.  BUT, there is more to this tool.  It has some handy-dandy little tool attachments to use in other areas of your creating.  Check out the video to see.

Pretty clever hey!  What about those neat little attachments?  You can get replacement putty too when you are out of it.

This Take Your Pick tool can be found on p30 of the Holiday catalogue OR you can see it in my store now -> HERE – and throw one in with your next order.

If you choose to order through me this week please use the HOST CODE: ME4VSE3W     I appreciate your orders and I usually send a little Thanks out your way so please be sure not to mark your details as ‘anonymous’ to the order otherwise I won’t know where to send a gift to you.

WEDNESDAY’S WOW! #38 – MAKE YOUR IMAGES POP!!

A quick one for Wednesday’s WOW! #38 today. I wanted to share with you a way to make those images ‘POP’ after you colour them.

The other day I was colouring the butterfly from the Beautiful Day set with the Stampin’ Blends.  I had an idea to add a few dots to it with my White Gel Pen.  I thought it added a little something to the image and thought you might like to see it.

It is a little rough but the idea is something to work with.  What do you think?  Maybe you could try that on a project you are doing?

Anyway, what did I do with this butterfly when I was done?  I added it to a jar that I collected my Lucky Door Prize forms at the show.

Thanks for looking

WEDNESDAY’S WOW #37 – COLOURING WITH THE STAMPIN’ BLENDS!

Today’s Wednesday’s WOW! #37 we are looking at some tips with colouring with the Stampin’ Blends.  I realise I talk a lot about colouring, and sharing videos and tips on colouring.  I hope you are not sick of this.  I think it is good considering there are so many stamp sets in the Catalogue that require colouring.  Plus, I think personally I need to get all the help I can with colouring because I am not great at it and I am always searching out for help. 🙂

I discovered you can create a great watercolour wash effect using the Stampin’ Blends shown in the card below.  I love the effect of the contrasting colours.  The images really “POP” when you heat emboss the image with white Embossing Powder after you colour the card.  This card uses the set You’re Inspiring but you could use any images.

Check out how to create this background effect in the video below but also in this video you can see how you can blend different coloured Stampin’ Blends together when colouring images.

What do you think? Why don’t you give this effect a try.  I think I will have to give it a try for sure.

WEDNESDAY’S WOW! #36 – WATERCOLOUR LIFTING!

I just discovered a fun new technique and I thought I would share it with you for this Wednesday’s WOW! Can you believe we are up to #36??  There are so many exciting techniques and projects to share with you each week.

This week I wanted to share with you the Watercolour Lift Technique.

Here is a card from Stampin’ Up! to show you the technique. How pretty is it?

Basically, it is washing your Shimmer White cardstock with a wash of ink using the Aquapainter.  Let it dry. Then stamp your images in Versamark over the area.  Solid images work better.  Then clear emboss them.  After that, wash over the card with a clean Aquapainter to lift some of the ink.  It lightens it revealing the images.  How cool!

I have a video to show you how it is done.

What do you think?  Now I am going to have to go off and try this ASAP.  Share your samples with me too I would love to see them.

Thanks for visiting me today for another episode of Wednesday’s WOW!

THINLITS V’S FRAMELITS V’S EDGELITS!

There are a number of different types of dies in the Stampin’ Up! Catalogue.  Do you know the difference between them?  That’s what Wednesday’s WOW!  #34 is looking at today.  Let’s check them out.

THINLITS VERSUS FRAMELITS VERSUS EDGELITS

Just a note too: You will find that many of the Stampin’ Up! Die sets contain Thinlits, Framelits and Edgelits.

What are they though?

Thinlits are usually the more detailed dies consisting of intricate designs and words. There are also Thinlits dies to create some 3D boxes or bags.  The detailed dies include ejection holes so you can remove the paper easily.  I would recommend using the Big Shot Die Brush or the Paper Piercer.

For example, Botanical Tags Thinlits shown below.

Or the Window Box Thinlits

Framelits have an open centre and are like a frame.  They can be placed over stamped images to cut the shape or used on their own.

Layering Ovals.

Wood Crate Framelits

Many of the Stampin’ Up! Die sets contain both Thinlits and Framelits as seen in the Eclectic Layers Thinlits set below.

Most Framelits can cut materials such as card, paper, vellum, fabric and other light materials.

Edgelits can cut the image to create a detailed border as in the Delicate Lace Edgelits below.

They can also cut the outline of the detailed Thinlits such as the Detailed Floral Thinlits below.

While discussing the Thinlits and Framelits?  Should you use the Precision Plate?

The Precision Plate is designed to get the best cut with the more detailed Thinlits so they are crisp and sharp.  They should not be used with Framelits or less detailed Thinlits as they may warp the dies.

To use the Precision Plate you will replace this with the bottom Cutting Plate in your Big Shot.

See it in action in the video below. (If you receive this blog update by email and the video is not showing then head directly to the blog post by clicking on the title at the top).

WEDNESDAY’S WOW! #32 – SPARKLY RAINBOW HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

For today’s Wednesday’s WOW! #32 I wanted to show you how I created the sparkly rainbow effect on the card below.

I wish you could see how sparkly this really is.  I have a close-up of the card below but it still doesn’t show it well but it may give you a little idea.

The Happy Birthday is from the One For All set that I have been sharing recently.  I went for a rainbow effect by sponging on the colours and then adding some Versamark and Dazzling Diamonds and Heat and Stick.  I have the step by step below.

Since the greeting is so bright and fun I kept the rest of the card simple. The paper is from the Brights Designer Series Paper Stack using the Granny Apple Green and the Melon Mambo print.  I was going to add a balloon but then decided on a Hot Air Balloon from the Lift Me Up set for something a little different.  I added a Glitter Enamel Dot for a little sparkle.

CREATING A SPARKLY RAINBOW

I used the Stamparatus for this technique and I will tell you the advantages of this below.

1. Position your piece of card on your Stamparatus ready to stamp it.  Place the stamp face down on your card in the position you would like it.  Fold over the top plate of the Stamparatus to pick up the stamp.

2. TIP: Whenever you are inking your stamp on the plate it helps to place an inkpad or a clear block under the plate so the plate is relatively level.

For your card, select your ink colours you want to use and matching sponges or daubers.  The colours I used were Granny Apple Green, Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight and Mango Melody.  TIP: I have punched out tabs from cardstock for the ink colours using the Pretty Label Punch.  I stapled the tab on to the sponge.  You can see it in the photo below. This way you won’t mix up colours when you are sponging.

3. Fold over your plate and press the stamp on to your cardstock.  Rub over the plate on the back of the stamp to transfer the ink.  NOW – because I had the Stamparatus, firstly I knew it would be straight BUT I could re-sponge over any spots that didn’t come out well on your stamped image and I could stamp it again.

What I did find also when I first stamped it I had a little too much yellow on the right hand end so I went back and sponged the Mango Melody just on the end. I knew it was going to turn out in the right spot when I stamped again thanks to the Stamparatus. I think the extra colour made a big difference on the card too.

4. Now to emboss your piece.  Firstly, wipe over your card with the Embossing Buddy.  Clean your stamp with the shammy then pat your Versamark over your stamp.

5. Turn over your plate and press down onto your card.  With the Stamparatus you know it will be in the right place.  Rub over the back of your stamp.

6.  Remove your card from the Stamparatus.  Sprinkle over the Dazzling Diamonds and Heat and Stick Powder. I have mine mixed together already in a small tub with 1/2 Dazzling Diamonds, 1/2 Heat and Stick.  It is so much easier having them combined together. Heat the powder with the Heat Tool.  Your sentiment should be all sparkly. 🙂

———-

Hope you can make some sparkly sentiments or even images.  Sparkly flowers might look nice.

Thanks for visiting.  I hope you like these Wednesday’s WOW! segments.  I have fun bringing them to you and hope they inspire you in your stamping.  Let me know if there is something particular you would like to know about.
